Chlorophyll-a daily product for the Baltic Sea 2012-2015

Satellite remote sensing is used to monitor the chlorophyll-a (ug/l) of surface water in the Baltic Sea during the open water season from April to October. Chlorophyll-a (chl-a) represents the quantity of algae in the water but not directly the amount of cyanobacterium. A daily chlorophyll-a product is calculated in the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) using AQUA MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) data. Satellite data have been processed to chl-a concentrations using bio-optical model optimized for the Baltic Sea and the SeaDAS software. The dataset covers years 2012-2015. The spatial resolution of MODIS instrument's channels varies from 250 m x 250m to 1 km x 1 km. The result is combined to 500m pixel size.

    Suomen ympäristökeskuksessa (SYKE) seurataan satelliittikuvilta Itämeren a-klorofyllipitoisuutta (ug/l) sulan veden aikaan. A-klorofyllin avulla voidaan arvioida levän määrää vedessä. Se on myös keskeinen tekijä veden rehevyystason arvioinnissa. A-klorofyllin määrä on laskettu AQUA MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) -instrumentin datasta käyttäen Itämerelle optimoitua bio-optista mallia ja SeaDAS-ohjelmaa. Aineisto koostuu vuosien 2012-2015 päivittäisistä kuvista. MODIS-instrumentin eri kanavien maastoerotuskyky vaihtelee 250 m x 250 m ja 1 km x 1 km välillä. Lopputuote yhdistetään 500 m x 500 m pikselikokoon. Aineisto kuuluu SYKEn avoimiin aineistoihin (CC BY 4.0).
